The friendly staff at Eureka Recycling will explain why composting is so important to a beautiful and healthy future for our planet and how you can start a backyard composting pile that fits your lifestyle. What type of bin should you use? What type of materials can you compost? How much time does it take? What can you use compost for? There is no one right way to compost, it’s about finding what works for you. We can provide tips for maintaining a healthy pile no matter what type of composter you are. Ears to You! Congratulations to the Minnesota State Fair for Reducing Waste
Eureka Recycling teamed up with the Minnesota State Fair to reduce waste at the 2007 Great Minnesota Get-Together through composting! The State Fair has composted manure for years, but this was the first attempt to compost food scraps. State Fair guests composted corn cobs outside the Corn Roast, which sold an average of 10,000 ears of corn per day! A dozen volunteer vendors in the food building also participated by composting food behind the scenes, along with the prize-winning food and vegetable displays from the agriculture/horticulture building. Nearly 40 tons of food waste were turned into nutrient-rich soil!
