Sorting Instructions

You can help make recycling a success at your building by sorting your materials into these two categories:

  • Papers & Cardboard
  • Bottles & Cans



  • PAPERS & CARDBOARD

     

    Include phone books with your papers.

    Envelopes with windows or metal clasps are OK. 

    Notebook paper, spiral notebooks (with metal binding), folders and computer paper are OK.

    Shredded paper should be put in a paper bag, do not use plastic bags.

    Flatten cardboard to 3 feet x 3 feet or smaller
    and place between the recycling carts.

    Some apartment buildings have a separate, large "cardboard only" dumpster for your flattened cardboard boxes.

    No boxes from your refrigerator or freezer
    (they are coated with plastic).
    No egg cartons.
    No tissue or gift wrap.
    No paper cups or plates.
    No pizza boxes.
    No waxed boxes.

    BOTTLES & CANS

    All metal food and drink cans.

    All aluminum foil and trays.

    All metal can lids, jar lids and bottle caps.

    Labels are OK.

    Rinse clean.

    Only and plastic bottles with a neck!

    Please step on plastic bottles to flatten!

    No aerosol cans.
    No scrap metal.
    No window glass.
    No glass dishes or glasses.
    No broken glass.
    No Pyrex glass.
    No light bulbs.
    No ceramic dishes.
    No yogurt or margarine tubs.
    No plastic bags.
    No toys.
    No take-out containers.
    *No bottles used to dispose of needles!
    (Label and throw in trash)
